Yesterday I had the pleasure of talking with a very special patient, Patricia Tapia. Patricia delivered her baby girl at Sutter Delta's Women's Health Center in May, 2010. What's so special about this patient, is that Patricia and her husband had been trying to have a baby for over 17 years. After going through 4 miscarriages, and failed infertility treatments, her and her husband just stopped trying to have a baby. They were actually contemplating adopting a baby from China and about a year later, Patricia found out she was pregnant!!! She and her husband were ecstatic! Patricia's pregnancy was followed by OBGYN, Dr. Sharon De Edwards. Patricia delivered her healthy baby girl, Josie Isabella Tapia on 5/25th at 5:49 p.m. Patricia had nothing but wonderful things to say about our unit. She was so pleased by the outstanding care she had during her entire Hospital stay. Patricia had a long labor that ended with a C-section, and R.N.S' Val Denning and Karen Nielson made her feel so at ease through the whole experience."I always felt well informed and I knew my Nurses were communicating with my Dr. the entire time." She said she had no idea all the little things Nurses did while taking care of their patients. Patricia told me she's actually thinking about going back to school to be an R.N. in Labor and Delivery or Post Partum after her wonderful experience at Sutter Delta. She feels she would like to be able to help take care of other Moms after she saw all that was done for her. One thing that Patricia and her family do each month since Josie has been born is to have a nice dinner with family to celebrate their little miracle. After dinner, Patricia loads up the baby and brings in special treats to the WHC. She has brought in things like doughnuts, cookies, a fruit tray, and something we all love in our department, CANDY! With each treat she brings in a card attached, thanking us for everything and thanking us for celebrating Josie. She does it each time the baby turns another month older. Her gratitude and appreciation means so much to our department. We are happy that Patricia's experience at Sutter Delta was such a great one! Not only is it fun to receive such tasty treats each month, it's a joy to see little Josie each time she comes in for a visit. We are delighted that we were given the privilege to be a part of that very special time, and that we are still able to celebrate every month the little miracle of Josie Isabella!
