Playing Safe in the Summer

The hottest months of the year are here. To keep your kids happy and safe―and avoid a visit to the ED―follow these summer fun tips:

  1. Allergies? See the pediatrician now. Allergies are easiest to control when treatment starts before allergy season.
  2. Ready the sunscreen. It’s best to use an SPF of 15 or higher and reapply every 1 – 2 hours, even if the sunscreen is sweat- or water-resistant.
  3. Think water safety. Children should always be supervised near water. It doesn’t take long for a child to drown.
  4. Stay cool. Heat stroke is a serious problem. Stay out of the sun on very hot days. Drink plenty of fluids, and don’t overexert yourself.
