People often don’t realize that they are having a heart attack until it is too late.  Some heart attacks are sudden and intense, but most start slowly with mild pain or discomfort.  According to the American Heart Association, the warning signs of a heart attack are:

-          Chest discomfort

-          Chest Pressure

-          Discomfort in other areas of the upper body such as the back, neck, jaw or stomach

-          Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort

-          Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadness

Women may experience different symptoms than men such as unusual fatigue, sleep disturbance, indigestion or heartburn, and anxiety.

According to Kelly Clemons, Echo Technician, every household should have a bottle of aspirin in their medicine cabinet.  If you are experiencing chest discomfort, take a baby aspirin or a regular aspirin before coming to the hospital.

If you experience any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately!  Minutes matter and it could save the life of you or a loved one.  Even if you are not sure if you are experiencing a heart attack, it is better to be safe than sorry!
