-         Keep portion size in your mind (how much you should eat):

In general, fill half of your plate with vegetables (cooked and/or raw), ¼ of your plate with starch (potatoes, corn, bread) and the remaining 1/4 of your plate with protein (sausage, hamburger, ribs). With all the variety in the market place, think fresh fruit for dessert!

-         Regular sodas are high in sugar and calories, water or diet soda would be a better choice if you want to spare your calories.

-         Choose lean cuts of meat and margarine instead of butter to reduce saturated fat and lower calories.
