·        Develop a well balanced diet for normal growth

Ø      Include different food groups at each meal throughout the day (grains, fruits & vegetables, dairy, meat and beans,  fats/oils)

·        Provide appropriate serving size, over-sized portions can sometimes overwhelm your child

·        Offer healthy snacks between meals, below are some snacks ideas:

Ø      Peanut butter and jelly or cheese sandwich

Ø      Fruit

Ø      Low-fat yogurt

Ø      String cheese

Ø      Cereal, granola bar

Ø      Raw, churchy vegetables  (cut into small pieces)

·       Include colorful ingredients into dish to increase appetite

Ø      Examples: Carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, broccoli and tomatoes

·        Do not mix different foods together, children tend to like their foods separate

Ø      Separate compartment plates are a great idea

·        Enjoy meals together with your children at the same time

Ø      Children develop good eating habits

Ø      Children tend to eat more when someone is around~ By Onna Lee, Registered Dietitian
