Here at Sutter Delta Medical Center we have Perioperative Nurses which is a specialized area of practice that works in a team setting with the Surgical Technician, the Anesthesiologist and the Surgeon to promote safe patient care of our surgical patients from the peroperative, intra operative and postoperative period. The perioperative Nurse helps manage the care of the patient within the Operating Room and assists with the needs of the team for the successful completion of the surgery plan.
The perioperative Nurse is the patient’s eyes, ears and voice as they undergo their surgery which is fitting as the theme for this years Perioperative Nurse Week is “The Freedom to Speak Out”. Please join me in congratulating the Sutter Delta Medical Perioperative Nurses in a job well done!
Sutter Delta Medical Center has 11 perioperative nurses on staff ~ Bonnie, Surgical Services Charge Nurse

Dr. Stewart is my favorite Dr. ever! She was always sure to answer all of my questions throughout my pregnancy, and being a first time Mom, I had many. My labor was a very long and challenging experience, but through it all, Dr. Stewart was very concerned and supportive. She and the staff helped make the delivery of my daughter a beautiful experience! Even after I gave birth, she was very concerned and helpful. She had the cute little glass shoe made for me, personalized with my daughter’s birth info, and it is a keepsake that I will always cherish. Thank you Dr. Stewart!
The Nurses at Sutter Delta were awesome! Mireya was the nurse that took care of me for most of the 3 days that I was an inpatient. Being induced was a very long process for me, but Mireya was very encouraging, and her kind words are what kept me from being discouraged. She was at my bedside for her whole 12 hour shift and even volunteered to come in on her day off. I was so honored to have Mireya help deliver my daughter and because of her kind heart and support, I chose Mireya as my daughter’s middle name. Now she will always be a part of our lives. Thank you Mireya!
Thanksgiving is a time of year when many people take time to reflect on what they are thankful for. The WHC would LOVE to hear from any parents out there that can share why they are thankful for their children, what life lessons their kids have taught them, or what it means to them. We are learning things everyday from our children, whether they are babies or teenagers. Please share why you are thankful for your kids! We really want to hear from you!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of talking with a very special patient, Patricia Tapia. Patricia delivered her baby girl at Sutter Delta's Women's Health Center in May, 2010. What's so special about this patient, is that Patricia and her husband had been trying to have a baby for over 17 years. After going through 4 miscarriages, and failed infertility treatments, her and her husband just stopped trying to have a baby. They were actually contemplating adopting a baby from China and about a year later, Patricia found out she was pregnant!!! She and her husband were ecstatic! Patricia's pregnancy was followed by OBGYN, Dr. Sharon De Edwards. Patricia delivered her healthy baby girl, Josie Isabella Tapia on 5/25th at 5:49 p.m. Patricia had nothing but wonderful things to say about our unit. She was so pleased by the outstanding care she had during her entire Hospital stay. Patricia had a long labor that ended with a C-section, and R.N.S' Val Denning and Karen Nielson made her feel so at ease through the whole experience."I always felt well informed and I knew my Nurses were communicating with my Dr. the entire time." She said she had no idea all the little things Nurses did while taking care of their patients. Patricia told me she's actually thinking about going back to school to be an R.N. in Labor and Delivery or Post Partum after her wonderful experience at Sutter Delta. She feels she would like to be able to help take care of other Moms after she saw all that was done for her. One thing that Patricia and her family do each month since Josie has been born is to have a nice dinner with family to celebrate their little miracle. After dinner, Patricia loads up the baby and brings in special treats to the WHC. She has brought in things like doughnuts, cookies, a fruit tray, and something we all love in our department, CANDY! With each treat she brings in a card attached, thanking us for everything and thanking us for celebrating Josie. She does it each time the baby turns another month older. Her gratitude and appreciation means so much to our department. We are happy that Patricia's experience at Sutter Delta was such a great one! Not only is it fun to receive such tasty treats each month, it's a joy to see little Josie each time she comes in for a visit. We are delighted that we were given the privilege to be a part of that very special time, and that we are still able to celebrate every month the little miracle of Josie Isabella!
